More and more security platforms inform that healthcare organizations face plenty of cyberattacks. There were several surveys that show an increase in cyber risks over the past 12 months.

Censuswide conducted a survey on 400 IT professionals at US healthcare organizations, and their 2,000 patients to obtain their views on cybersecurity and data breaches in healthcare. Ransomware gangs have targeted the healthcare industry over the past 12 months, and many of those attacks have succeeded. 58% of the surveyed IT professionals said their organization had experienced a ransomware attack in the past 12 months.

Most It specialists most are confident that they will be able to recover data in the event of a ransomware attack. However, 13% of IT security pros really concerned about it. The main causes are data breaches and attacks on hospital operations. It has become increasingly difficult to defend against cyberattacks due to the expanding attack surface. For example, Armis says there are now 430 million connected healthcare devices worldwide, and that number is continuing to rise.

Some Patients Unaware of Healthcare Cyberattacks

As a result of HIPAA violations, almost half of patients (49%) said they would change their healthcare providers if they experienced data breaches and ransomware attacks. There are still 61% of patients who had not heard about data breaches and vulnerabilities in the healthcare sector despite all media reports. They are unaware of the risk of ransomware and other cyberattacks.

On the other hand, the increase in cyberattacks in the healthcare sector is influencing healthcare decisions. 75% of IT professionals said recent attacks have had a strong influence on decision-making. Then 86% of respondents also said their organization had appointed a CISO. People know what impacts those attacks have on the quality of care they receive. They are primarily concerned about the privacy of information accessible through online portals.
